Pre-Sermon Prayer of Adoration for Sunday AM 2/1/09

(Based on Ps. 23 & 19)

LORD, because of your devotion to us, there is no item this morning on our “I-need” list.  Yes, we have many items on our “I-want” list.  We want much.  But because you have dedicated yourself to us, we need nothing.

In the good times, LORD, you’re the one who provides abundantly.

You provide our weary bones a comfortable resting place.

You provide our parched throats cool and soothing water.

You provide our anxiety-baked spirits refreshing peace.

In the bad times, when the sky’s falling and the walls are closing in, you’re the one who’s always present, calming us.

If each gift and blessing from you were a grape that we squeezed into a Guinness-Book-of-World-Record-sized wine glass, it would overflow with that happy red juice!

LORD, your world amazes us.

When we gaze at all you’ve created, it speaks.

It shouts aloud that you made it and that you are glorious.

We witness your sunrise and sunset and stand in awe.

Your world, LORD, amazes us.

And your word, LORD, amazes us.

When we read all you’ve written, we are refreshed.

We become wise.

We gain joy.

We find insight.

LORD, we’d rather possess your word than the most lavish luxuries.

We’d rather dine on your word than on the most perfect pastries.

So LORD, we ask you to speak.  Amaze us again with your word.  Give us insight.  Give us joy.  Make us wise.  Refresh us.

We pray in the name of the Living Word, Jesus Christ, Amen.
