How One Moment Changes a Life

Just finished seven hours with some of the best servants of God in the city of Memphis praying about ways to serve the poor and the lost together.

We began by sharing “our stories.”  One theme was present in almost each story.  For almost every one of us, what drove us to serve the poor/love the lost was a single event in our lives that permanently changed us.  For me it was the experience of Gary Cox teaching me about Jesus for the very first time.  For another it was serving as a social worker and visiting a boy in the hospital who had been beaten to death by his mother.  For another it was walking by a homeless person one day, doing nothing, and dealing with the conviction that caused.  Again and again, one moment proved to be a giant God-moment which continued to define, shape, and direct us.

What’s your moment?
