God’s Letters From Philippi #23

2 I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord.
3 Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. (Phil. 4:2-3 ESV)

My Beloved,

If someone’s on my list, take them off yours.

My Book of Life contains the names of countless Christians, including you. And guess what? None of them are perfect–including you. It’s no shock to me that there’s a few people on those pages who’ve gotten on your nerves.

He said something that hurt you. She did something that infuriated you. They acted in a way that devalued you. They charted a course that defied you.

And now you’re holding a grudge. You’re nursing that wound. You’re plotting your revenge.

Don’t.

Instead, forgive. Forget. Mend what’s been broken. Restore that relationship.

You don’t have to see eye-to-eye on everything. I’m not hoping for uniformity. Just unity. The work of the gospel is too important. The mission is too valuable. Don’t let this conflict get in the way of that.

With love,

Father
