Eschatological eclipse leads to social injustice?

Jesus tells a parable of a master who leaves and puts his servant in charge (Matt. 24).  The servant believes the master will be long in returning.  And the first thing he does is start beating other servants (Matt. 24:49).

Is it coincidence that the man’s unwillingness to live with any kind of immanent eschatological world view leads him immediately to mistreat other people?  What might a correct eschatological worldview do to the way we treat others?  Is there a connection between believing Jesus will return soon and loving neighbor as self?
